Wood: Pale yellowish- to pinkish-brown heartwood, creamy-white to pale brown sapwood; has flake figure on quarter-cut material; straight grain; medium-coarse texture.
Working Qualities: Dense: strong; medium stability; durable; susceptible to insect attack; abrasion-resistant. Excellent steam-bending timber.
Finishing: Good.
Uses: Furniture; boat-building; flooring, veneer, cabinetry.

Origin: Europe

Wood: Course-textured. Sapwood is thin, between 1 to 4 cm, and white. Heartwood is light brown to dark brown. Mostly straight grained with a medium to coarse texture.
Working Qualities:
Dense: strong; medium stability; durable; sapwood susceptible to insect attack; Good steam-bending timber.
Finishing: Excellent.
Uses:
Furniture; boat-building; heavy construction, barrels.
